Leonard A. Kahn

I work at Loyola University New Orleans, and I currently serve as the Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and, ex officio, as the Gerald N. Gaston Distinguished Professor in Religion & Science. I am also an Associate Professor of Philosophy. I was the 2021-2022 Donald and Beverely Freeman Fellow at the U.S. Naval Academy’s Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership. I do research and teach primarily in moral theory and applied ethics and at the moment I focus on the intersection of just war theory and the ethics of technology (especially robotics and AI).

Currently, I’m reading (or rereading):

  • James Carse, Finite and Infinite Games

  • Terry Eagleton, Why Marx Was Right

  • Eric Hobsbawm, The Age of Capital: 1848-1875

  • Simon Critchley, Tragedy, the Greeks, and Us

  • Alan Ryan, On Politics
